What should I prepare before the first marriage counselling session?

Come with an open heart and one or two main things you want to discuss, not a long list of your spouse's faults. Think first about what you hope to achieve from counselling, so the session is more focused. Be prepared to listen and to accept your part in the problem, not only to defend yourself. Write down a few real examples so they are easy to explain. Come without expecting the counsellor to take sides or act as a judge. Confidentiality and honesty allow the session to go well. Make this effort for the sake of Allah and for the good of the family, and pray for it to be made easy. See counselling.
