My child refuses to visit my ex-spouse after the divorce. What should I do?

First listen to why your child refuses, because it may be fear, a disrupted routine or simply testing, and it rarely means he truly does not want to go. Do not force him with anger, but do not use his refusal to punish your ex-spouse either. Reassure your child that he is safe and allowed to love both parents. Encourage that relationship positively, because a child usually needs both parents. If the refusal stems from something worrying about his safety, take it seriously and get advice. For prolonged disputes over visitation rights, refer to the Syariah Court. A child counsellor can help your child open up. See counselling.
