📜 Akad nikah · #78

I am adopted. Who is my marriage guardian, my adoptive father or my biological father?

Your wali is your biological father or a paternal guardian (wali nasab) on your biological father's side; an adoptive father does not become wali because adoption does not change lineage (nasab). If your biological father's details are known, the religious office will ask you to contact him or his male relatives. If they are not known at all, a wali hakim will marry you off. Get your birth and adoption documents early, because the marriage officer will check them. Your adoptive father can still have a role on the day, for example as a witness if eligible, or as the family representative welcoming guests. The love that raised you is not lost simply because of the rules on guardianship. See wali.
