⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #85

What are the signs that a person's intention to practise polygyny is not right?

A wrong intention usually centres on desire, escape or what people think, not on responsibility and justice. Signs include: wanting polygyny to take revenge on or frighten one's wife, to show off status, because of being influenced by what others display, or to run from problems that should be solved. Other signs are planning to hide it from one's wife, or neglecting the existing family as soon as the wish arises. Examine your heart honestly, pray istikharah, and you can talk with a knowledgeable person who does not simply back what you want. If your intention is to look after welfare justly and you are able, that is purer; if it is a passing urge, postpone and reflect. A corrupt intention damages two households. See critical wisdom.
