Q&A › Polygyny: rulings & justice

⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #86

I am attracted to polygyny but realise I cannot be just. What is the alternative?

When justice is beyond your ability, the right path is to focus on and nurture the marriage you already have. Allah does not burden a soul “beyond what it can bear” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:286), so knowing your own limits is a sign of wisdom. Invest that energy in repairing your relationship with your wife: make time, improve communication, and revive affection. Guard your gaze and heart from what tempts. If this urge is strong, talk with a counsellor or a knowledgeable person to understand its cause. Happiness does not lie in adding wives, but in being grateful for and taking care of what Allah has given. See counselling.
