🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #339

After a shocking event, I find it hard to function as usual. Is this normal?

A strong reaction after a shocking event or a loss is a normal response to an abnormal situation. Give yourself time and do not force yourself back to ‘normal’ straight away. Keep up basic routines, stay in touch with supportive people, and limit repeated exposure to things that trigger the memory. Dhikr and dua help anchor a shaken heart. If symptoms such as nightmares, extreme anxiety or persistent numbness last more than a few weeks, see a doctor or counsellor. Recovery is not a straight line, so be gentle with yourself. See mental health.
