How should a couple plan their finances for retirement according to Islamic guidance?

Good retirement planning combines prudent saving, moderate spending and reliance (tawakkul) on Allah. Allah praises those who, when they spend, “are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a balance between the two” (Surah al-Furqan 25:67). Review together your sources of income after retirement, such as pension and savings, and estimate your real expenses. Clear debts early, because they are a burden in old age. Also set aside something for charity and ongoing good works (amal jariah) as savings for the Hereafter. Avoid dubious investments that promise extraordinary returns. If it is complicated, get advice from a licensed Shariah-compliant financial planner. See family finances.
