Q&A › Khitbah & engagement

💍 Khitbah & engagement · #89

A proposal party is coming to our home. What do we need to prepare as hosts?

Prepare a calm atmosphere, a family spokesperson who is ready, and an answer your daughter has agreed to. Simple refreshments are enough; warmth is remembered more than the food. Before the day, sit with your daughter and the wali (guardian) to settle the family's position on the mahr, the gifts (hantaran), the length of the engagement and the date of the nikah. Appoint one spokesperson, usually an uncle, so the discussion does not overlap. Prepare comfortable and modest seating for male and female guests. After the party leaves, write down what was agreed and contact their representative to confirm it. See proposal (khitbah) guide.
