Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #107

It is hard for us to do i'tikaf at the mosque. Can we hold a special night of worship together at home?

True i'tikaf is done in the mosque, but you can still set aside a special night of worship at home to draw closer to Allah together. Choose one night, cut down distractions from phones and television, and fill it with voluntary prayers, Qur'an recitation, dhikr and supplication. You can intersperse it with a short discussion on the meaning of a short surah or one of the names of Allah. Prepare light food so energy is kept up without being a burden. Set the intention to improve yourselves, not merely to stay up at night. If there is a chance to do real i'tikaf at the mosque even briefly, that is better in the last ten nights. Consult the religious office about the conditions of i'tikaf. See du'a & prayer.
