Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #112

Do the future husband and wife need to attend the pre-marriage course together?

The requirement depends on the organiser and the state, but attending together usually gives far greater benefit. Check first with your religious office whether separate attendance is accepted. When you both hear the same topics, the discussion afterwards becomes easier. You can also see your future spouse's reaction to topics such as maintenance (nafkah), responsibilities and a wife's rights. If you cannot attend together, share your notes and discuss them in a relaxed session. Also ask each other: ‘What surprised you most in the course?’ See pre-marriage course.
