Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #213

My husband works abroad. How can he remain a present father in the children's lives?

A father can stay present in his children's hearts even from afar, as long as the relationship is kept up deliberately and regularly. Encourage him to chat directly with each child, not only through their mother, and to ask about their school and friends. He can read a story over a video call before bedtime, or send voice messages with a du'a. Involve him in upbringing decisions so that the children know their father still leads the family. Avoid making the father the long-distance ‘scolder’; let his relationship with them be full of love. Keep one special routine between father and child. See educating the family.
