Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #320

A neighbour likes to spread stories about our marriage. How do we deal with it?

Reduce the material for stories by keeping your household matters out of public view. Avoid quarrelling loudly enough to be heard outside, and be careful what you share on social media. Do not answer stories with stories, because that only adds fuel to the fire. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6018); dignified silence often kills gossip faster than a defence. Keep treating your neighbour well so that your actions disprove their stories. If the slander seriously harms your reputation, get appropriate advice. See in-laws.
