Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #104

My parents are divorced and not on speaking terms. How do I arrange the akad day without tension?

Plan with each parent separately before the day, so no one is surprised or feels sidelined. If your father is your wali, his role in the akad is already clear. Your mother, too, has the right to be by your side. Discuss with each of them where they will sit, who will be with them and who will look after the guests. If there is a new spouse, ask whether their presence will add tension. Appoint a calm relative as coordinator to ease things. Tell them both: ‘For today, I need you, mum and dad, both of you.’ See children of divorced families.
