🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #147

My family is pressuring me to give up my share of the estate to my other siblings. Must I comply?

No; giving up a share of the estate must be done willingly, not because of pressure. Consent given out of embarrassment, pressure or fear of being shunned does not reflect true willingness. You are entitled to receive your share first, then decide calmly whether you want to give part of it away. Do not sign any letter of renunciation or consent before you understand its contents. Ask for a copy, take it home, and read it with someone you trust. If the pressure continues, say firmly but politely: ‘I need time to think.’ The estate officer or the Syariah Court can make sure your voice is heard in the process. See faraid in the family.
