Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #370

My husband has just lost his job and we are anxious. How do we stay calm and grateful?

Losing a job is a heavy trial, but it does not wipe out all the blessings your family still has. Allah says: “And give glad tidings to those who are patient” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:155), and patience here means holding on while making an effort. Sit down together, cut spending straight away, and plan the steps to find a new income. Support your husband without blaming him, because he may already be weighed down enough. Increase your prayers and keep up your salah, because calm strengthens the mind to act. Get legitimate help if needed, such as welfare support or reskilling. Many families come out of hard times closer than before. See trials in a marriage.
