Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #216

After a small misunderstanding, we can stay silent for days. How do we make peace faster?

Prolonged silence turns a small misunderstanding into a wall. The Prophet ﷺ said: “It is not lawful for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three nights, each turning away when they meet. The better of the two is the one who greets first” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6077). Be the one who makes peace first; it is a sign of strength, not defeat. A touch, a glass of water offered, or a ‘let's make up’ is enough to open the door. Clear up misunderstandings by asking, not by assuming bad intentions. The sooner peace is made, the smaller the scar. See communication & emotions.
