🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #122

My ex-husband badmouths me in front of our children. How do I respond without retaliating?

Do not retaliate by badmouthing him in turn; instead be the calm, consistent voice your children can trust. When a child repeats those words, answer briefly without attacking: ‘Maybe Daddy is angry right now. Mummy still loves you, and you can love Daddy too.’ Allah says: “Repel (evil) with what is better” (Surah Fussilat 41:34). Discuss the effect on the children with your ex-husband in writing, without an accusing tone. If it continues and affects the children emotionally, note down examples. A sulh officer or family counsellor can help set shared rules. See also communication and emotions.
