Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #397

As a young widow, how do I protect my dignity and the limits of social interaction without being shut in at home?

You can go on living, working and socialising well while keeping the limits Allah has set; religion does not require you to be shut in. Going out for errands, work and family ties is your right, while keeping to proper dress, speech and limits with non-mahram men. Avoid private one-to-one conversations that could give rise to temptation (fitnah) or feelings. Choose surroundings and friends that support goodness. Pay no attention to some people's bad assumptions about widows; guard yourself for Allah's sake, not out of fear of people's tongues. Dignity is protected by good conduct, not by hiding yourself from the world. See widow.
