Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #124

Every time I raise money, my future spouse says ‘Allah arranges our provision’. How do I continue the discussion?

Acknowledge the truth of what they say, then explain that planning is part of trusting in Allah (tawakkal). Provision is indeed in Allah's hands, but managing that provision faithfully is our responsibility. Perhaps they avoid it because they are embarrassed about their salary, have debts they have not mentioned, or grew up in a family that never talked about money. Lower the pressure by starting from your side: ‘I want to share my salary and savings first, so we can plan together.’ Choose small questions first, such as where to live and what rent feels comfortable. If they keep refusing after several attempts, that is important information about how the two of you will make decisions later. See discussing money before the akad.
