What is nikah syighar?
A syighar marriage is the exchange of daughters or sisters in place of mahr: "I marry my daughter to you on condition that you marry your daughter to me," with no mahr for either.
The Prophet ﷺ clearly forbade syighar marriage. In the Shafi'i school, such a contract is invalid because one woman's marriage is made the mahr for another woman, denying them their right to mahr. If two families marry their children to each other, each with its own separate mahr and without a condition of exchange, that is not syighar. See Mahram.

Difference between schools. The Hanafi school regards the contract as valid but the exchange condition as void, and each woman is entitled to mahr mithil.
