Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #90

My child prays, but fast and without real effort. How do I correct this?

Correct it by teaching, not scolding, because a child at this age is still learning the meaning behind the movements. Pray with him calmly so that he sees an example that is unhurried and focused. Explain the simple meaning of one or two recitations, such as the meaning of al-Fatihah, so that his prayer has feeling and is not just routine. Praise him when he prays more calmly, and avoid mocking him in front of his siblings. Make sure he is not rushing because he wants to get back to playing; give a pause before prayer to get ready. Just be patient; maturity in prayer comes gradually. See prayer guide.
