Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #192

The children in my home look down on their siblings in the other home because their circumstances differ. What should I do?

That attitude of looking down must be corrected promptly because it contradicts family values and humility. Children often copy adults' views about status or wealth, so first check how you yourself talk about the other home. Explain that a person's honour lies in character and taqwa (God-consciousness), not in wealth or the look of a house. Encourage your children to see similarities, not differences, and give them shared experiences — eating, playing and helping together. Correct any mockery firmly but wisely. Unchecked pride can sever ties that should last. See children & polygyny.
