🕌 Worship in the home · #6
My husband forbids me to wear the headscarf or tells me to abandon prayer: must I obey?
No need to obey; there is no obedience to any created being in disobedience to Allah.
A wife obeys her husband only in what is right (ma'ruf). Covering the ʿawrah in front of non-mahram men and performing the prayer are individual obligations that no one's instruction can cancel. The wife should refuse in a kind but firm way. A husband who forces his wife into sin has betrayed the trust of his leadership. If the pressure continues, seek counselling at the religious affairs office. See Rights of husband & wife.
