💰 Family finances · #111

Who should manage the household finances as a newly married couple?

There is no one required way; what matters is that the finances are managed transparently, honestly and with both of you agreeing. Some couples appoint the more careful one to oversee the budget, while others manage it together. Whoever oversees it, both of you should know the family's financial position and be involved in big decisions. Remember, the family's maintenance (nafkah) remains the husband's duty, while the wife's property remains her own. Set a budget for needs, savings, charity and a little for each of you. Review it together every month so there are no secrets and no one feels controlled. Being transparent about money early on prevents many arguments later. See family finances.
