How can we assess the state of our marriage ourselves?

Do a regular review together, just like a health check-up, before small problems grow. Choose a relaxed setting, and assess a few areas one by one: communication, worship, finances, intimacy, raising the children and relations with the extended family. Ask each other what is going well and what could be improved, without blame. Pick just one or two things to focus on this month so that you are not overwhelmed. Make it a regular habit, not just a reaction after a quarrel. Use the marriage check-up as a guide for your conversation.
