Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #114

Everyone tells me to be patient, but I feel no one is really listening. What do I do?

Feeling unheard is a wound in itself, and you deserve to be heard before being advised to be patient. The advice 'be patient', given too quickly, sometimes silences a person who is hurting. Look for someone willing to listen without rushing to correct you, such as a counsellor or a mature friend. Know that Allah hears what people overlook; remember His words: “Indeed, Allah has heard the word of the woman who complains to you concerning her husband, and who complains to Allah” (Surah al-Mujadilah 58:1). Tell the people around you honestly: ‘I will try to be patient, but right now I need a listening ear, not advice.’ Being heard first makes it easier for patience to come later. See mental health.
