The court wants to hear our child's views on custody. How do we prepare him without pressure?
Tell your child that he only needs to speak honestly, and that no answer will make his mother or father stop loving him. Do not coach your child with particular answers or promise him gifts. A coached child can often be detected, and he is then burdened with guilt. Explain briefly what will happen, for example that he will chat with the judge or an officer in a quiet room. After the session, do not interrogate him about what he said. Praise his courage and return him to his normal routine. If your child is very anxious, talk to a child counsellor or a syarie lawyer about the best way to support him. Read more on the hadhanah (custody) page.
