Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #104

I want to go back to my ex-husband, but my family strongly objects. What should I do?

This decision is yours, but a family's objection often comes from the pain they witnessed, so listen first. Ask them calmly what worries them most. There may be something you overlooked while missing him. Then share what has changed, with evidence and not just promises. If the iddah has already ended, you need a new marriage contract (akad), and your wali is directly involved, so your family's consent is very important. Invite your ex-husband to meet your family to apologise for past mistakes, if any. If the earlier separation was caused by cruelty, reassess carefully and get a counsellor's view. See remarrying.
