Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #213

I am stiff and rarely show affection. Does that affect my marriage and my religion?

Affection is not just a feeling but an attitude that is asked of us, and holding it back chills both home and heart. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5997). If you were not raised with open affection, it can be learned little by little. Start with actions rather than waiting for feelings: one touch, one compliment, one act of help a day. Tell your spouse that you are trying, so they understand. Affection that is practised gradually warms feelings that were stiff. A home needs love that can be seen, not only love felt in the heart. See everyday adab.
