Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #130

Should I see a counsellor before marriage even if I feel there are no big problems?

It is not required, but pre-marriage counselling helps you know yourself before starting life as a couple. Counsellors are not only for people with problems. They help you see patterns that may carry into the marriage, such as how you handle anger, expectations about the roles of husband and wife, or old wounds from your own family. You can go alone or with your future spouse. Bring specific questions, for example, ‘I tend to go silent when I am disappointed. How can I change?’ The family counselling unit at the state Islamic religious affairs office and LPPKN are among the places you can contact. Even one or two sessions are enough to give an early picture. See counselling.
