Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #95

Should I pray istikharah before deciding to divorce?

Yes, istikharah is very good for a decision this big, as long as it goes together with consultation and real effort. Istikharah is asking Allah to choose what is best, not waiting for a dream or an extraordinary sign. After the prayer, keep taking reasonable steps: speak to a counsellor, ask the views of a trusted learned person, and weigh the facts honestly. If matters become easy and your heart settles towards one option, that is among the signs you can take into account. Do not use istikharah to delay a decision when you are in danger; safety does not need to wait. Allah says: “Remember that in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (Surah ar-Ra'd 13:28). Read also prayer and supplication.
