🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #107

During my iddah after talaq, may I go back to live at my parents' house?

As a rule, a woman in the iddah of talaq stays in the marital home, unless there is a reasonable excuse to move. The wisdom is that the door to reconciliation and rujuk stays open, and your right to housing is protected. But if you are thrown out, the house can no longer be lived in, or staying there causes real harm, moving to your family's home may be permitted. Discuss this with your ex-husband in writing so there is no later accusation that you left without reason. Every family's situation is different, so an officer at your state Islamic religious affairs office can assess whether your choice is appropriate. See iddah and rujuk.
