🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #138

We divorced long ago, and then our child died. Does my ex-husband still inherit?

Yes, divorce ends the bond between husband and wife, but it does not end the bond between a father and his child. Both mother and father remain heirs to that child, even if only one of them raised him. Your feelings may be mixed, especially if your ex-husband was rarely present in your child's life. Those feelings are natural. But faraid does not measure who sacrificed more, and a correct division closes the door to disputes later. Let the estate matters proceed through the official channels. If negotiating with him directly feels too hard, ask siblings or the estate officer to act as go-between. See managing an estate.
