Q&A › Polygyny: the law

🏛️ Polygyny: the law · #76

I lost my job while my polygyny application was still in progress. Should the judge be told about this change?

Yes; inform the court of the change, because your application is assessed on your real situation, not your situation when the form was filled in. Letting the court decide on outdated information is the same as giving untrue evidence. Contact your lawyer, or the court registrar if you have no lawyer, and ask the proper way to submit up-to-date information. You may also consider withdrawing the application and reapplying when your financial position is stable again. Focus first on your existing family: their maintenance is still obligatory even if your income falls. This difficult time is also a chance to talk honestly with your wife again. See withdrawing an application.
