Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #317

Our family keeps asking when we will have children. How do I deal with this pressure?

Decisions about children belong to the two of you, and you are not obliged to explain this private matter to anyone. Family questions usually come from love and hope, not a wish to hurt, so meet them calmly. A short, friendly answer is enough, such as ‘Pray for us, insya-Allah when the time comes.’ There is no need to share your efforts, health problems or private plans. Agree with your spouse on the same answer so that you are not divided in front of the family. If the pressure becomes oppressive, let each of you answer your own family and shield your spouse from hurtful remarks. Leave the provision of children to Allah. See communication & emotions.
