Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #102

How do we explain to our children that their parents have reconciled?

Tell them together, briefly and honestly, without promising things that are not yet certain. For example: ‘Mummy and Daddy have talked and want to try living together again. We will work at being better.’ Children who have seen a separation may be happy, but some are also afraid it will happen again. Give them room to ask questions and express their feelings, including anger or doubt. Do not ask them to take sides or to watch over either parent's behaviour. Bring back family routines gradually, such as dinner together and praying in congregation, because children gain confidence from what they see. See children and family.
