Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #140

My ex-husband is critically ill. Should I visit him with the children?

Taking the children to visit their sick father is a great kindness, and you can accompany them while keeping the limits proper to an ex-wife. The children may not have many more chances to see him and seek forgiveness, and these memories matter to them. Contact his family, or his new wife if he has one, to let them know of the visit, so that things are not tense. Prepare the children for their father's condition before going into the ward. If you feel able, a word of forgiveness and a prayer from you can also bring relief. If your heart is not yet able, ask another family member to take the children. Read also preparing for death.
