My stepchild is cold towards me and seems to hate me. How do I reach their heart?

A child's coldness usually comes from sadness and confusion, not hatred of you. They may still be grieving the change in their family, so do not take every rejection to heart. Keep being kind without expecting an immediate return; a stepchild's affection is usually won through perseverance, not pressure. Try doing something small for them every day without much talk, such as preparing their favourite food. Do not complain about them to others or compare them with other children.
