💰 Family finances · #135

My late husband's bank account has been frozen, but I need money for the children's expenses. What can I do?

The account is frozen to protect the rights of all the heirs, but there are several ways to cover your immediate needs. Ask the bank about a withdrawal facility for funeral costs, if there is one. Also check sources paid directly to a recipient, such as takaful that names you, death benefit contributions, or benefits from your late husband's employer. Your own savings and salary are not affected. If things are tight, apply for zakat assistance from the state Islamic religious council or the Department of Social Welfare (JKM); it is your right, not a disgrace. Meanwhile, apply for the estate distribution as soon as possible, because the children's shares can be used for their needs once distributed. See zakat and welfare assistance.
