Does child maintenance include school fees, tuition and medical treatment?

Yes; child maintenance (nafkah) covers all reasonable basic needs, including education and health, according to the father's means. Maintenance is not only food and clothing. Housing, schooling, books, transport and medical treatment are also a child's needs. Tuition or extra activities usually depend on the father's means and the family's standard of living before the divorce. When discussing maintenance, list fixed monthly expenses and yearly expenses such as start-of-year fees and school uniforms separately. Include an allowance for medical emergencies. If agreed, record it at the Syariah Court so it is clear who pays for what. Refer to the child maintenance page.
