Pre-clinical Studies

The First Three Years of Undergraduate Study Include:

  • 36 credits of Andrews Core Experience (ACE) courses

  • 35 credits of cognates (inlcudes math & sciences)

  • 14 credits of medical laboratory science fundamental courses

Program option feature directed elective coursework selected in consultation with the faculty advisor according to the student's career goals and interest. 

The pre-clinical studies requirements are:

  • Andrews Core Experience (ACE) requirements (36 Credits)

    • Directed Electives

    • Arts & Humanities (9 credits)

    • Language/Communication (9 credits)

    • Social Science (3 credits)

    • Mathematics (3 credits) - considered a cognate for the BSMLS

    • Wellness (3 credits)

    • Religion (12 credits)

      • (or one course per year of residence; refer to Religion )

  • Cognate Math & Science Requirements (35 Credits)

  One college-level math course. Select from (or equivalent courses):

  • MATH 165 - College Algebra Credits: 3
  • MATH 168 - Precalculus Credits: 4
  • STAT 285 - Intro to Applied Statistics Credits: 3 (preferred)

             16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science. Select from (or equivalent courses):

  • BIOL 165 - Foundations of Biology Credits: 4,5
  • BIOL 166 - Foundations of Biology Credits: 4,5
  • Or  BIOL 221 - Anatomy and Physiology I Credits: 4
  • Or  BIOL 222 - Anatomy and Physiology II Credits: 4
  • Or MLSC 320 - Fundamentals of Immunology Credits: 3
  • Or Other upper division biology courses chosen in consultation with academic advisor or approved by Program Director.

           16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (least one semester in organic or biochemistry).
           Select from (or equivalent courses):

  • CHEM 131 - General Chemistry I Credits: 4
  • CHEM 132 - General Chemistry II Credits: 4
  • CHEM 231 - Organic Chemistry I Credits: 3
  • CHEM 232 - Organic Chemistry II Credits: 3
  • CHEM 241 - Organic Chemistry Laboratory I Credits: 1
  • CHEM 242 - Organic Chemistry Laboratory II Credits: 1
  • Or  BCHM 421 - Biochemistry I Credits: 4
  • Or Other chemistry courses chosen in consultation with academic advisor or approved by Program Director.
  • Major Prerequisites (14 Credits)

    • MLSC 105, 205, 210, 230, 240, 350

  • Directed Electives (5-8 Credits)

Students select courses in consultation with and by the consent of their advisors in a planned program to enhance professional preparation. 

Courses are chosen from biology, business, chemistry, computer science, electronics, and education. 

Pre-medical/pre-dental students must include: PHYS141, 142 General Physics (8 credits).
