Lake Michigan College Upward Bound Math Tutor

Job Description:
Provides tutoring and skills-building support in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus, for Lake Michigan College Upward Bound (UB) High School Students, grades 9th-12th; facilitate individual and small group tutorial sessions and provide sophomores and juniors with SAT Test Prep in mathematics. Maintain documentation on students’ progress in math. Assists UB staff in monitoring students’ attendance and citizenship, whether in person or in remote setting.
Qualifications:
• Must be able to tutor courses listed in the job description. The ability to tutor additional subjects (i.e., science, biology, is a plus)
• Must have completed at least two years of college, and successfully complete college algebra and Pre-Calculus and/or two years of tutoring experience
• Must be dependable.
• Must be able to work with a diverse student population.
• Must be able to interact maturely and independently with students.
Must be available to tutor between 2-6 hours per week, 3:30pm - 5:30pm, M & TR. Hours may vary, dependent upon high school and Lake Michigan College calendars.
Upward Bound is a federally-funded TRIO program.
Hourly Wage: Minimum $15.00/hour

Qualifications:   
1. Appropriate Michigan certification (preferred DI endorsement)

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Job Goal: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students enabling each child the opportunity to reach his/her maximum level of achievement.
3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students and provides a learning climate for the students.
4. To develop instructional materials and equipment appropriate for individual development and classroom instruction.
5. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
6. To assume the responsibility for the safety, conduct and health of the students under his/her supervision; to see that the physical upkeep of the classroom and equipment is maintained.
7. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
8. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
9. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
10. Maintains communications with parents concerning their child’s progress and the school’s programs.
11. Differentiate for the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as needed.
12. Maintains accurate, complete and current records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations and makes those reports as required by the school district.

13. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
14. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
15. To prepare adequate plans and materials for a substitute teacher.
16. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
17. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
18. Ability to use technology in the classroom to supplement curriculum.
19. Ability to use assessment data to make instructional decisions in the classroom.
20. And, such other duties as may be assigned by the principal.

Special Education Coordinator

Seeking an EC-12 Special Education Coordinator who can also function as an instructional coach for Lake Union EC-12 schools. Job offering is on a contractual basis aimed at providing support for educators and students in need additional educational and behavioral supports to overcome academic, behavioral, social-emotional challenges as well as learning disabilities and other challenges that impede success in a traditional school setting. As an instructional coach employee would provide leadership in planning, coordination, and implementation of the instructional framework, using among other resources NAD, Union, Conference and school curricular, instruction and assessment resources. This position provides direct support to school teams and educators through planning, modeling, co-teaching, facilitating, training, and data analysis across content areas using multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS) and social emotional learning informed practices.

The ideal candidate should possess training and experience in the field of special education, strong teacher leadership, coaching, organizational skills, and ability to provide instructional leadership, program alignment, and teacher support. 

Reports to: Lake Union Director of Education

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree in Special Education with specialization in a Special Education Field and experience noted below:
o Special education teacher
o At least five years working in the field of special education in two or more of the IDEA disabilities area.
o Strong knowledge of current and best practices in Special Education instructional and pedagogy

Additionally, candidate should possess the following:
• Experience in assessing IEPs, writing modification/accommodation plans, knowledge of special education and section 504 laws.
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Knowledge of culturally responsive evaluation and identification practices, adaptive teaching practices, RTI, assistive/accessible education practices 
• Ability to provide training and coaching around programming and staff mindset related to complex learners with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning needs.
• Strong skills in classroom management and establishment of instructional routines
• Ability to develop instruction aligned with conference and NAD standards.
• Capable of designing assessment tasks that allow students to demonstrate understanding in a variety of ways.
• Competence in using data to give meaningful feedback and scaffold instruction.
• Skillfulness in collaborating with administrators, educators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and coordinate student support to improve student outcomes.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a local school team and office team of educators.
Salary Range $79,000.00 - $84,000.00
