Biography

Dr. Karla Basurto-Gutiérrez is a Professor in the School of Graduate Psychology & Counseling, where she teaches advanced statistics and research courses that guide students in developing their research proposals and completing dissertations. She also serves as a methodology advisor for dissertations across various graduate programs.

Dr. Basurto-Gutiérrez began her career as an English teacher at the elementary school level, later transitioning to a business professor role, where she taught for over a decade. She then pursued a doctorate and became a professor in the graduate business program. Years later, with a passion for enhancing education, she decided to earn a second doctorate in curriculum design, with the goal of better serving her students and advancing her academic career.

Current Research or Professional Activities

Dr. Karla Basurto-Gutiérrez focuses on addressing the "publish or perish" pressure in higher education by establishing a curriculum and training program that equips professors to effectively teach graduate students how to write publishable research articles. This initiative seeks to bridge the gap in graduate training where, despite the critical importance of publishing, many professors may not have the experience of publishing themselves.
