Merle J Isaac   <h4> The Symphony Orchestra repertoire: Conductor: Robert Boardman</h4> "Letter from Home" by Copland "Unfinished Symphony no. 8, mvt. 1" by Schubert "Go Where the Wind Takes You" by Iryna Aleksiychuk "Nimrod, from Enigma Variations" by Elgar "Piano Concerto no. 1, mvt. 1" by Prokofiev John Miller, soloist, SBYSO concerto competition winner "Farandole, from L'arlesienne suite no. 2" by Bizet   The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestra has been based out of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at Indiana University South Bend since its inception in 1968.  SBYSO performs three concerts annually, in fall, winter and spring. SBYSO comprises of students from as far south as Culver, as far west as La Porte, north to Edwardsburg and east to Goshen.  Their current conductors are Dr. Robert Boardman and Zac Coudret. At this special time, �պ�AV would like to take an opportunity to express our gratitude for our student veterans' service to our country. Our University is thankful and proud that these students have chosen �պ�AV to reach their educational goals. To help honor their service, we are planning to recognize our �պ�AV veterans during the Faith 360 chapel on Nov. 7, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. The program will be held at the Howard Performing Arts Center (HPAC) during the Faith 360. The University has invited a representative from the Desmond Doss Foundation, Jeffrey Cordone, to be the key speaker. Additional Veterans Day Events: <ul> <li> Nov. 11: Employee Worship, Devotion with Pastor Patel, U.S. Veteran—PMC Youth Chapel, 8:30 a.m.</li> <li> Nov. 11: Write a Thank You Card for a Veteran & Get a Cupcake—Campus Center Lobby, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.</li> <li> Nov. 11: Pizza Dinner by Email Invitation for AU Veterans & Families (contact <a href="mailto:veterans@andrews.edu">veterans@andrews.edu</a> for place & time.)</li> <li> Nov. 7–12: Display of Veteran-Related Books in the James White Library Foyer</li> <li> Nov. 12: Tuesday Choice, Testimony with Army Veteran Henry McNeily III, MDiv Student—Buller Hall Auditorium, 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.</li> </ul> This time of remembrance and recognition is crucial. Throughout our history, military service members have put on their uniforms to protect our nation’s values and liberties. For our Veterans Day events, we will focus on the U.S. Veterans Administration’s 2024 theme of "A Legacy of Loyalty and Service". This theme recognizes the dedication and commitment of veterans to the United States. With that theme, �պ�AV wants to recognize our student veterans and their fellow veterans who have made a sacrifice to serve our country. As we look back on their service, and on centuries of veterans’ service and sacrifice, we must always maintain the vision for the future. We hope that we can continue to honor all who served, while also focusing on the needs of the next generation of veterans. If you have had a meaningful experience in your own service to your country and would be willing to share some of those experiences with others, we would love to hear from you. You can share your experiences and memories either in words or images.
