Wed, 06 Nov 2024 16:32:52 +0000 �պ�AV Choirs Fall Concert http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/65245 The �պ�AV Department of Music presents “A Vision Unfolding—Learning from the Past & Present,” featuring the �պ�AV Singers and Chorale.   This Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the Howard Performing Arts Center, the �պ�AV Singers will open the concert with songs of salutations and praises to the triune God. The centerpiece of the concert features the premier performance of “Song of Assurance” by �պ�AV alumnus and published composer, Michael Sandvik, director of choirs at Great Lakes Adventist Academy. The University Chorale presents the final portion of the concert featuring the new five-movement work by Kyle Pederson, entitled “A Vision Unfolding.” The composer has written stirring music inspired by and including foundational texts and speeches of American poets: Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, Robert Bode and Shanelle Gabriel. We begin with an exciting piece that embodies the spirit of our pioneers, followed by pieces composed by our very own Dr. Max Keller, Assistant Professor of Music, Theory and Composition Area Coordinator, and Chair of the Department of Music and Dr. Kenneth Logan, Organ Instructor and Minister of Music at Pioneer Memorial Church. Sharing his arrangement of Advent hymn tunes, Dr. Keller’s work weaves in The Morning Trumpet (Oh When Shall I See Jesus) with Kingsfold, also known as I Heard the Voice of Jesus or O Sing a Song of Bethlehem.
