Summer Graduation at ÈÕº«AV

ÈÕº«AV’s summer graduation will take place Aug. 2–4, 2024. The weekend will include a Commencement service on Friday evening, a Baccalaureate church service on Saturday morning, a Sabbath vespers service on Saturday evening and two Commencement services on Sunday morning.

The Commencement and vespers services will occur at the Howard Performing Arts Center, and the Baccalaureate service will take place at Pioneer Memorial Church. Please note that in order to provide more seating for families and friends of graduates, Commencement will be held in three separate services and is by reserved seating. Overflow seating for the Commencement services is available in the Seminary Chapel.

On Friday, Aug. 2, at 5:30 p.m., Anna Galeniece, associate director of the Ellen G. White Estate, will give the Commencement address for the College of Education & International Services and the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary. Her talk is titled “The Way to Success.” Galeniece holds an MA and DMin from ÈÕº«AV, and she completed her clinical pastoral education in Grand Rapids, ND. She has worked across Europe, Africa and North America, serving as a Bible worker, pastor, hospital and hospice chaplain, missionary and professor. Also a productive scholar, Galeniece has published several articles in books, journals, encyclopedias and magazines. In addition to her role with the Ellen G. White Estate, she serves as a research professor of chaplaincy and founding director of the Seminary Chaplaincy Study Center at ÈÕº«AV.

The Baccalaureate service will take place at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. Dwain Esmond, associate director of the Ellen G. White Estate, will give a talk titled “Graduation Day.” Esmond holds a BA in English from Oakwood University and an MA in English literature from Pittsburg State University. A prolific editor and writer with over 360 published articles, he previously served at “Message Magazine,” “Insight Magazine” and the Review and Herald Publishing Association. In his current role, he supervises the preparation and publication of White Estate-related content, including academic texts, anthologies and devotionals, and he helps lead strategic planning and development. He is also an ordained minister, lead evangelist and elder in the Seventh-day Adventist church.

Two Commencement services will take place on Sunday, Aug. 4. Loren Hamel, retired president of Corewell Health in Southwest Michigan, will give an address titled “One More Thing” at the 8:30 a.m. service for graduates of the College of Health & Human services. Hamel holds a BS from ÈÕº«AV, a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan and a Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. For the past 41 years, he has served ÈÕº«AV in several roles, including as clinical professor of nursing, president of the Alumni Association and member of the Board of Trustees. He has held multiple leadership roles in local Michigan health systems and was instrumental in the merger of Lakeland Health and Spectrum Health into Corewell Health.

Jacquelyn Warwick, professor emerita of marketing, will deliver the 11:30 a.m. Commencement address, titled “A Future Old Person,” for graduates of the College of Arts & Sciences and College of Professions. Warwick obtained a BA from the University of Puget Sound as well as an MBA and PhD from Texas A&M University. She began teaching at ÈÕº«AV as an associate professor of marketing in 1997 and served until her retirement as Colson Endowed Chair of Marketing in 2019. While at Andrews, she worked on numerous campus committees and advised several student clubs, receiving multiple awards for her service and teaching. Warwick is also an active member of her community and has been involved in the Berrien Springs High School, Berrien Springs Garden Forum, and Women’s Business Center.
