COVID-19 Update: UG Co-Curricular Adjustments
Dear Undergraduate Students,
I hope you are safe and well in these difficult and disruptive times.
Recently, University administration approved grading options for the spring 2020 semester. Additionally, fresh consideration was given to the co-curricular requirement. As a result, this semester’s co-curricular requirement has been reduced to the . Should you encounter debilitating medical circumstances in the midst of this pandemic, please contact our office as well as your professors and alert us to your situation.
Here is what you need to know:
- Fewer Credits
With a shortened semester and online format, the semester requirement has been reduced to 23 CREDITS for traditional students and 8 CREDITS for non-traditional students (those 25 years or older or with a child in their care). Of course, you are welcome to participate in more programs just to stay in touch with the University community during this time apart.
- No Minimums
The Chapel/Forum minimum (12 credits) and Residence Hall (6 credits) minimum have been REMOVED for the semester. Your credits can come from any available source.
- Past Programs
You now have the option to go to the and view Thursday programs from this semester that you did not attend—and still receive credit. Just fill out the short attendance survey, included in the description beneath each video. There are 12 programs now in the archive.
- New Programs | New Website
We will offer numerous online co-curricular programs in the next several weeks. These can be found on the new webpage. Click “See Full List” in the Join Us Online section, and you can view all Upcoming Live Events (livestreams and Zoom meet-ups) as well as Videos & Podcasts (which include pre-recorded and past-recorded online programs).
Not all listed events will receive co-curricular credit but many will. Look for these credit-bearing opportunities each week:
- Andrews Speaks. Fifteen video/podcast programs, featuring University faculty and staff, will be produced by Andrews podcaster Jeff Boyd and posted on the page each Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
- Livestream Vespers. Campus Ministries will stream vespers for the remainder of April, continuing tonight Friday, April 3, at 8 p.m. EST via the .
- Chat & Pray. Campus Ministries will also offer, via Zoom, “Chat With Chap” sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11:30 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. EST and a daily Morning Prayer Meeting at 7 a.m. EST.
To receive credit for your participation, complete the attendance survey included in the video/livestream description, or message your name and ID number to the Zoom host (for Zoom meet-ups).
- Service Learning
is still available online and can be filled out anytime before the Thursday, April 16, deadline.
We will notify you of any new credit opportunities, as they become available. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Jessica Vazquez (jessicav@andrews.edu), our co-curricular records manager, or myself (yeagley@andrews.edu).
Also, on the webpage, you will find an invitation to reach out to your deans, chaplains and others of us in the Division of Campus & Student Life. Please do so—for any reason. We are eager to be available and supportive of you as we close out this most unusual semester.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,
Steve
