Death of Mary Faye Dunn

| Posted on January 17, 2019

Mary Faye Dunn, age 85, a longtime resident of Cassopolis, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at her home in the comfort of her family’s presence.

She was born July 20, 1933, the oldest child born to Dallas and Faydette Youngs.

Mary enjoyed a successful career with the Lewis Cass Intermediate School District. She derived her greatest joy from being a mother, grandmother, friend, volunteer and philanthropist, and traveling the world in retirement with her beloved significant other of 20 years, Al Smouse. She was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, and lived in several states and Canada with her parents and sister. Following her graduation from Emmanuel Missionary College in Berrien Springs, Michigan, she married Gilbert Dunn in 1955, with whom she later had four children.

Mary will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her significant other, Al Smouse of Cassopolis; daughters, Rebecca (Ken Herbel) Dunn of Fairfax, Virginia; Shelley Dunn of Oakland, California; sons, Greg (Sharon Stone) Dunn of Chicago, Illinois, Scott (Cheryl) Dunn of Ann Arbor; granddaughters, Taylor and Cassidy; grandsons, Dallas and Griffin; one sister, Roxana Jane Hoehn of Topeka, Kansas.

Family and friends gathered for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at 3 p.m. in the Cass District Library, 319 M-62, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made in Mary’s memory to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202 or https://fundraise.heifer.org/fundraiser/1813516. Mary dearly loved this charity, which is an organization dedicated to eradicating hunger and poverty.  Every Christmas she would gift her children and grandchildren with animal sponsorships that directly benefited the lives of families in third world countries.
