"The Lost World of Genesis One: Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate" presented by Dr. John Walton, Professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College.

Sabbath afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Biology Amphitheater on the campus of 日韩AV.

Professor Walton is the author of the book, The Lost World of Genesis One: Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate published by Intervarsity Press in 2009.

According to Francis S. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project and author of The Language of God, "This book presents a profoundly important new analysis of the meaning of Genesis. Digging deeply into the original Hebrew language and the culture of the people of Israel in Old Testament times, respected scholar John Walton argues convincingly that Genesis was intended to describe the creation of the functions of the cosmos, not its material nature. In the process, he elevates Scripture to a new level of respectful understanding, and eliminates any conflict between scientific and scriptural descriptions of origins."

Professor Walton holds a Ph.D from Hebrew Union College in Hebrew and Cognate Studies.  He has been on the faculty of Wheaton College since 2001.  Prior to that he taught for twenty years at Moody Bible Institute.  He is general editor of The Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrunds Commentary: Old Testament. His other books include Jonah (Expositor's Bible Commentary), Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament, and Essential Bible Companion.
